Self paced 20-hour course to help you learn to grow your own fruit and vegetables at home!

Course Code: SGH4

Course Duration: 20 hours (minimum, self paced study, commonly 2 to 8 weeks, less or longer as you need)

If you have ever wanted to start your own vegetable patch or grow your own fruit, this course is a great place to start with all of the basics. Before you waste your money buying plants that might not thrive, learn with us, then you will be able to march into your local garden centre armed with the valuable knowledge about which plants will suit your region, the best location to grow the plants in, and how to give your seedlings the most ideal growing conditions like the correct watering, nutrition, light, soil, and suitable methods of pest and disease control.

Begin on Friday evening, and by Sunday night you could be ready to grow and enjoy your own fresh and healthy fruit and vegetables. This self-paced course will give you the confidence to start or enhance your veggie garden, with an understanding of what to grow and how to grow it well.

The course covers 14 lessons, and includes optional activities and tasks that can expand your knowledge in this area and be used as you plan a garden that's the perfect fit for your circumstances. At the end of each lesson you'll need to complete an online self assessment to review your learning. The course will also conclude with a large comprehensive online exam. If you achieve a mark over 60% for the exam, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion with your name on it.

Topics Covered Include:

  • What can you produce in your garden?
  • Deciding what to grow
  • Harnessing climate and environmental factors for a productive garden
  • Citrus fruits, Tropical fruits, Deciduous fruit trees and Berry fruits

There are extra case studies or research you can undertake if you would really like to get into the topic. Once you have completed the lessons and self assessment tasks, there is a final exam undertaken online and you can then download your personalised certificate.
